I'm reading The Yellow Cross: The Story of the Last Cathars, 1290-1329, and came across the following lovely piece of logic. Pierre Clergue, a priest, wishes to have sex with Beatrice. He says:

"It is just as great a sin if a married woman is carnally known by her own husband as it would be if she were known by anybody else, the same sin whoever the man, whether he be her husband or a priest. It is indeed a greater sin to have intercourse with a husband, because the wife is not conscious of sinning during sex with her husband, but she certainly believes herself to be sinning if she has sex with other men. Therefore married sex is a more serious sin than sex with another man."
