I have read the interesting defense that unique forum personalities should be allowed to be themselves, e.g., member A is a well known curmudgeon, everyone is aware of it, so let him have his fun.

Main problem with this is it's unfair on all the other members, who will then also have a case for special accommodations being made to allow for their eccentricities/annoying habits. It's also a signpost on the road down to Cliqueville, as it assumes all are in the know, or should be.

And then there's the possibility that the undesirable behaviour will catch on; an example having been made, with the entirely plausible excuse that curmudgeon no. 2 should be grandfathered in.

All in all, a very messy way to do business.
