I had a moment last night. A moment of pure, unadulterated pleasure. The rear wheel of my latest project bike had been languishing against a book case, weighed down by a 5-speed freewheel, giving me angry looks every time I passed laced with a desire to be free of such lopsided pull. Then last night. Freewheel remover in hand (thanks MV!) I turned my hand to the necessary job. Or rather my feet. The freewheel was pretty damned stiff. The wheel sighed its relief - a burden lifted from its bent and loose spokes, rejuvenation coarsing round its rim.The single, 16 toothed, shining cog that spun on - little wider than the hub sitting by its side - brought the moment of epiphany. It looked 'right'. Simplicity ringing out I knew in that moment, knew with all of my soul, that I was doing the right thing. And then I made a cup of tea and went to bed.The end.
