The first thing I noticed was that I couldn't see the prompt cards. I didn't realise the lights would go down and the spotlight would be on me. I started off okay, but then my mind went blank and I realised my mouth was so dry my top lip had stuck to my teeth. I stared at the audience, and they stared back. Several days later I got going again, but it was all over. I remember peering at the floor trying to find the prompt cards and then saying 'Well, I think I'll leave it at that if you don't mind' and I walked off to the sound of my footsteps. But the worst thing, the very worst thing, was as I left the stage, a woman in the audience said 'Ahh, Bless'...
