well, all I can say is this. If you want to see civic society at its best, if you want to see charity at its most profound, if you want to experience a society in which great writing, music, radical thought, and brotherhood are both manifest and bountiful then go west. You can fetch up in the most unlikely of spots and be floored by a feminist critique that surpasses the kind of weedy gentelligentsic pap that clogs up the pages of the New Statesman and the Guardian, you can meet people with a personal history of political struggle that would be a credit to William Cobbett (who gained his best from his Columbian journeys, and, mysteriously, you can meet folk who know the works of Thetford's greatest mind when 95% of all Thetfordians are completely clueless. Mock at your peril.
