A year or so ago I was chatting to a very nice lady in a noisy pub. She asked if I was married, to which I replied 'no, I'm divorced'. She looked at me in disgust and walked away, and spent the rest of the evening avoiding me. I thought that perhaps she had strong religious views on divorce. Only later did I find out via a third party that she had misheard 'divorced' as 'debauched'.
