Today's safety announcement

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to (virtually) introduce to you, a lovely lady by the name of Sue.  She works in the Sound Department at the BBC, and amongst her many duties she has the task of coming up with ways of making radio plays better, by dint of what's known in the industry as 'Spot Effects'.  These are the incidental noises, which maintain the illusion of reality for the audience: Tea cups, door slams, sloshing of water, etc.  these are her empire.

One play demanded that the audience hear the sound of a small child in a classroom cutting off her own fingers with scissors.  Naturally, the use of a real child was frowned-upon, and a substitute was found.  Sue went and bought a couple of lbs of baby carrots, and proceeded to cut them lengthwise for the recording.  The Producer apparently had to leave the room to be sick.
