What does BikeRadar actually mean?

It's a type of intuition.

You know, where you're sitting on the tube, or standing in a queue at the supermarket, and catch someone's eye, and just instinctively know they're a cyclist.  Some people claim to have BikeRadar so powerful that they can tell if the person's a MTB type or a roadie just from a single glance.

If the person you've seen also has BikeRadar, they might give you a slight smile, or a flash of the chainring tattoo if you're lucky.  It can even lead to people meeting up and going riding together.

You need to be careful though, if you're talking about your BikeRadar in public.  There's a minority of strange individuals who don't understand how cyclists can gravitate towards each other in this apparently spontaneous way, and will accuse you of running a cyclists' recruitment drive, deliberately corrupting young Fiat drivers and turning them into cyclists.  If you have an encounter with one of these types, you probably need to go and sit in a cyclists' pub for a while, admiring other people's bikes and reassuring yourself that there are like-minded folk out there.
