Do gentlemen tourers need to pack long trousers?

I take a pair of walking trousers I bought from Millets.  Very light and roll very small.  I'm not sure of the brand, but they're not the unzippy leg type.  I don't like those.

They fill me with a desire to push the wearer into a ditch.  As do gillets, except gillets (I can barely type the word without shuddering) are worse.

I see. So when it comes time for you to be put in Room 101 it will be filled with bearded cyclists, wearing SPD sandals, wooly socks, zip-off nylon trousers, blue striped Helly Hansen wicking tops, Tilley hats and gilets ?
They may offer you lukewarm tea from their tannin-coated Thermoses.
