I saw an interview with Jack Higgins a few weeks ago. He has lived in America for over 30 years or so and they asked him if he ever considered coming "home". His answer which I found strangely poignant was that since "home" was the England of 1969 when he left it didn't exist anymore and he had nowhere to go home to.
