Sir Ben

Welcome to a new chapter of screenplay. This gallery pays homage to an actor who so memorably inhabited the skin of saint and sinner: Sir Ben. Kingsley's astonishing range allowed him to play both Mahatma Gandhi in the epic story of Nobel Peace Prize loser Gandhi and Don Logan in the menace-fest Sexy Beast, not to mention himself, as luvvie and defenceless kitten, in an episode of The Sopronos.

Sexy Beast, which also starred Ray Winstone as the poor sod who just wants to be allowed to fix his pool without too much hassle, and Ian McShane as Al Swearengen reincarnated, gave Sir the opportunity to shine as the mesmerizing sociopath who so clearly wanted to break free from Gandhi's pyjamas.

Watching Don Logan is like waiting for a cobra to strike as you dangle, say, a defenceless kitten in front of it. He belongs in a lineup with the usual suspects, though he'd probably call them all cunts – has that word been trademarked by Bradley Wiggins yet?

In addition to his Oscar, Grammy, BAFTA, Golden Globes, and bump up the food chain granted by the Queen, allow me to present the ultimate accolade: a Top Trumps card
